Alfa Romeo is a general car manufacturer that belongs to the Fiat Group. The brand has always made sure to cultivate an exclusive character by restricting its range to only a few models. At present, the range consists of four standard models: a city car, a road car, an SUV and a supercar. More than a quality car manufacturer, Alfa Romeo is an emotion manufacturer, as its slogan "la meccanica delle emozioni" reminds us. Driving an Alfa Romeo means belonging to a particular category of driver, the alfists.
Alfa Romeo embodies the alliance of performance and Elegance. With a glorious past, the Alfa Romeo brand has always been associated with motorsport. Its recent return to Formula 1 shows that the brand's orientation has not changed. In particular, the Quadrifoglio Verde series is the brand's standard in terms of sportsmanship. Characterized by the affixing of a four-leaf green clover to the body, its vehicles are powered by a powerful twin-turbo V6 engine developing more than 510 horsepower.
In terms of elegance, alfa-Romeo has been awarded several times for the Design of its models. Just recently, the Alfa Romeo Giulia received the "Compasso d'Oro ADI" award for its design. Elegance is part of the brand's DNA, as evidenced by the expression "necessary beauty" so dear to the brand.
The brand provides several levels of finishes for its models in order to offer different styles (sport, elegance, business, etc.) and standard equipment.
The Alfa Romeo range consists of four different models.
The Romeo Alfa Giuletta follows in the footsteps of the famous Alfa Romeo 147, which marked the return to the forefront of the Italian brand. With a certain elegance, this compact is very agile and can adapt to all types of tracks. It is only available in a five-door version.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia is the new star of the Italian brand. This vehicle is a concentration of innovation and technology providing remarkable driving pleasure. The vehicle has received more than 106 awards to date, making it one of the most award-winning cars in the world. A tried-and-tested road, it will delight emotionally-hungry fathers. Reneging with the charm of propulsion, the Alfa Romeo Giulia also benefits from an optimal weight distribution (50% on each axles) and a system of avant-garde suspensions. Long the holder of the record for the fastest lap on the Nurburgring circuit, the muscular quadrifoglio verde version is the sporting flagship of the range.
The Romeo Alfa Stelvio is the latest. This is the first SUV designed by the brand. Combining the versatility of an SUV with the character of a sporty sedan, the Stelvio is true to the brand's tradition and has all the attributes to attract new alfists.
Finally, the Romeo Alfa 4C completes this range. This vehicle with its mesmerizing lines leaves no one indifferent. Combining Alfa engineering with Maserati manufacturing, the 4C model is unique and offers sporty performance worthy of the biggest supercars. A blend of aluminum, composite materials and carbon fiber, the Alfa Romeo 4C weighs less than 900 kilograms. This feat allows it to possess one of the lowest weight-to-power ratios in its class!
The arrival of the Stelvio on the market was an event long awaited by the entire community of alfists. It is, in fact, the first SUV to be produced by the brand at Biscione. But the novelty always generates a little apprehension. Indeed, is this new model faithful to the tradition of the Milanese firm? Is there the DNA of the brand so dear to its fans? Let's discover this new model.
In 2003, Alfa-Romeo presented a concept car called Kamal at the Geneva Motor Show, which foreshadowed the arrival of an elevated model in the range. More than 15 years later, the Italian brand officially released the Stelvio. So it's little to say that this model has been delayed!
It shares the same platform as the Giulia sedan, voted "Best Car of the Year" in 2016. A similar front shield with its distinctive wide grille is found. At 4.69 m long, it has a nice habitability. Indeed, at the rear, both occupants have room for their legs and the volume of the trunk (525 L) is relatively large.
In diesel, the model is available in version 2.2 L 160ch 2.2 L 190ch and 2.2 L 210 hp. On the petrol engine side, it comes in two versions: 2.0 L 200 hp and 2.0 L 280 hp. In order to adapt to the different needs of its customers, the Italian brand offers a wide range of finishes each featuring a set of standard equipment: Business, Super, Executive, Sport Edition, Lussoand Turismo.
The brand also offers a sporty version, stamped with the famous four-leaf clover, the Quadrifoglio verde. Holder of the fastest lap time on the Nurburgring circuit, it is the sportiest model on the market at the moment. Equipped with a 510-horsepower twin-turbo V6, this engine is directly derived from that of the Ferrari 488 GTB.
With this new model, the Milanese brand has set itself the goal of making the most dynamic SUV in the sector. Its name is also borrowed from the highest pass of the Italian Alps, known for its vertiginous route consisting of 75 laces!
As usual, the brand Biscione does not disappoint driving side. Lighter than its competitors (1,660 kg compared to 1,800 kg for the Audi Q5 or BMW X3), it is agile on the roads. True to the brand's sporting tradition, it is a propulsion model. On the 210 hp diesel, 200 hp and 280 hp petrol versions, it benefits from a Q4 transmission that allows up to 50% of motor skills to be transferred to the front wheels in case of loss of grip. Although elevated compared to the Giulia sedan, its ground clearance remains relatively low for an SUV, which gives it better road qualities.
The least we can say is that his performances are at the rendez-vous. Thus, the 280 hp 4-cylinder petrol model goes from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds. That's one second less than the Porsche Macan or BMW X3 2.8i, and 0.6 seconds less than the Audi Q5 2.0! Performance, design, sound, quality, innovation... no complaints, the DNA Alfa is indeed present!
