Lamborghini has a history going back more than fifty years. The company has produced dozens of legendary models during its history. Its success is largely due to its ceaseless search for perfection, the Italian way. Lamborghini has succeeded in becoming one of the world’s most famous and well-respected manufacturers.
Ferruccio Lamborghini is the founder of the legendary marque, which began in Bologna, Italy, in 1951. Before he began to look at creating supercars, Ferruccio was involved in the construction of agricultural plants, in order to meet the high level of post-war demand associated with the reconstruction of a devastated Italy. Soon his business was the third biggest in this competitive Italian market.
His success was such that in 1963 he founded his company Automobili Lamborghini and began creating his automotive masterpieces. His aim was to construct the perfect motor car as he saw it, and to challenge prestigious Italian GT marques such as Ferrari.
The first car that left the factory in 1964 was the 350 GT. Ferruccio and his team of talented mechanics and engineers had succeeded in designing an exceptionally innovative car for its time, with the most beautiful V-12 engine ever made.
Later, in 1965 at the Turin Auto show, Lamborghini exhibited a prototype that was the real starting point of the company’s success: the Lamborghini Miura. Everything that characterized the Italian company's products were to be found in this car:unique, original, aggressive bodywork, sporty yet elegant. The aesthetic approach, so emblematic of the manufacturer, was born with the Miura.
From 1963 up until the present day the company’s intrinsic values remain unchanged; the priority is always to stand out from the crowd by offering cars which combine design, high-performance and quality. To achieve this Lamborghini is always at the leading edge of innovation.
The famous yellow bull on a black background represents both the dynamism and sporty character of the cars produced by the manufacturer from Bologna. Being Ferruccio Lamborghini’s birth sign, he made it the emblem of his organisation, a manifestation of the strength, robustness and agility of his cars.
This imposing animal is powerful, determined and untamed, like the company's supercars.
Many of the model names chosen by the company have also been prestigious breeds or names of bulls:Miura and Gallardo are breeds, whilst Diablo, Murcielago, Huracan and Aventador refer to names of famous fighting bulls. As for Urus, the name recently given to the company’s first SUV, this refers to an ancient breed of bison which has long since disappeared from Europe.
The colours of the logo were originally white and red, after those of the town of Sant’Agata Bolognese. They later became black and gold, to represent luxury and modernity.
